About WA1OKB
My name is John Tetreault, I live in Oakland Beach in Warwick, RI with my wife and 3 miniature dachshunds.
My first experience with radio communications was as a public safety communications officer in New Hampshire. I was one of the founding members of the NH Emergency Dispatcher's Association. I did this for about 8 years in my 20's, but then my life took a different path and I left that career.
Since my childhood, I've always dabbled in computers and information technology, so blending computers and radio was a natural for me. While I've always had an interest in amateur radio, I just never took the time to pursue getting my license. That changed in 2019, when I finally decided to get my technician class. Since that time, I've been working on a few different projects, I have built a compact, solar powered 2 meter APRS digipeater running on a DRA-818V single board transceiver from SV1AFN and a Raspberry Pi Zero W with Direwolf, and am currently working on building a 70cm DMR repeater using a couple analog mobile radios and a Raspberry Pi and an MMDVM_RPT_Hat board from DF2ET, although that is proving to be more of a challenge than I thought it would be, but I'm learning as I go, and enjoying the hobby.
